About
Hi there! I’m Lyssa Newport. Lyssatism is a site where I showcase my professional and creative projects.
I am a creative professional with a broad range of diverse interests ranging from education to web development. I have a passion for making subjects come alive for kids that led me to teach art, French, elementary, Spanish, English as a Second Language, and sewing skills across grades K-12 over the last 10 years. I have developed my HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills over the course of several years alongside my teaching work which has allowed me to contribute to a handful of open source projects. In addition, I am well-versed in professional-level copywriting, copyediting, French localization, QA work and even some design work.
In my free time I love pursuing the fine arts and fiber arts and designing my own clothes, wallhangings, and pieces of art. Graphite drawings were my first love, and from there I expanded my art interests to include figure sculpture, digital photography and digital art, and watercolor painting. I love every step involved in making a finished piece of fabric, from dyeing fiber to spinning yarn to knitting, weaving, or sewing a finished piece. I also love combining unexpected mediums, like using oil pastels, beadwork, and embroidery on a sewn wall hanging to add depth and texture.
