Autumn Rose Pullover

This is one of the trickiest knitting projects I have ever done. The sweater was based off of the Autumn Rose Pullover pattern by Eunny Jang, and made using Knit Picks Palette yarn. I chose to make my own colorway instead of using the original colors, so I plotted out a new set of colors using Photoshop to make a new chart.

The original neckline was too low, so I had to adjust the neckline up by 1-2 inches. Unfortunately I could not try it on as I went because of the way the sweater is constructed. In order to knit the neckline it has to be knit as a big tube, then cut open down the center of the neckline to give it the large U neckline that it has. Until I cut the neckline steek open I was unable to try on the sweater as I went, which meant that I was definitely nervous about the fit until the moment of truth. After I cut the steek the neckline had a weird shape to it, so I modified where I picked up stitches to round out the top of the neckline more. After that modification the neckline was just right and the tank top that I wear underneath is perfectly hidden by the top edge of the sweater.

I also added in a little bit more waist shaping than the original had, and directly under the bust I added 8 extra stitches on the front for the striped segment where it would be hidden, and only decreased them back out after I had knit above the fullest part of my bust.

This was my first fitted Fair Isle project, and I’m pleased with how well it fits. If I could do this again I would add in 1 more inch of body length, and I would add about 1/2” of extra ease in the sleeves, and probably more length in the sleeves as well. The amount of yarn I had only just worked - I ran out of one color just as I was binding off, and I had only 3 yards left of two other colors.
