Ceramic whale

I made this ceramic whale by creating a solid shape, and then cutting it in half to hollow it out and joining the halves before firing. The whale's blow hole served as a natural air hole for this project to allow the interior to dry. I applied Clayscapes Glazes CP7 Starry Night as a base layer to create depth in the 3D textures and cracks of the piece, then wiped most of it off except what was in the crevices. For the main body of the piece I applied Clayscapes Glazes CP28 Pacific Blue. To encourage color combining and glaze running a bit, I also added highlights of Clayscapes Glazes CP17 Tim's Dark Celadon and Clayscapes Glazes CP24 Crystal Clear. Piece was fired at cone 6.

To prevent the whale from sticking to the kiln shelf I placed a ceramic cookie underneath to catch any pooling glaze.
