Visual journal - About me
This visual journal is a quick attempt to sketch out a few things that are important to me. I included myself, but experimented with a new technique and tried merely outlining the image and using a rainbow gradient of different pastel pencils to do so. The resulting effect really stands out, and I am quite pleased with the way the outlined self portrait looks. I also used the same colors to write out hello in Russian, Chinese, Arabic, and Japanese. I love learning bits of different foreign languages, and that love of languages colors my personality. I also did quick sketches of my family using pastel pencils, although they turned out rougher than the self portrait did. For our three cats I drew them in a cartoonish style, because I enjoy drawing things in a cartoonish way, especially animals. Finally I included three visually distinct buildings or architectural styles in the image as a way of representing excitement about traveling the world.
This image was mostly made using Carbothello pastel pencils, although I also used Derwent Inktense water soluble permanent ink pencils for parts of the details, and I used some metallic gold oil paint sticks that I had laying around to add a slight shimmer to some of the buildings at the bottom of the image.
